The Key Signals We are watching this Monday that will shape the week ahead:
SpaceX debuted June 12 with first trade at $150/share (11% premium to $135 IPO price) closing +19% to $2.1T market cap making it sixth-largest company and Elon Musk first modern trillionaire. Wedbush Securities managing director Dan Ives assigns 80%+ probability SpaceX and Tesla will merge giving Musk dominant control of combined entity including SpaceX/Tesla EV/robotics/xAI (which already merged SpaceX February 2026). Tesla already holds $2B SpaceX stake with Starlink connectivity integrated into remote/charging deployments. Ives: "Musk wants to own and control more of the AI ecosystem."
Why It Matters: 80% merger probability from top Wall Street analyst is a binary event with massive implications. If Tesla folds into SpaceX, Musk controls ~85% SpaceX stake meaning Tesla public shareholders get diluted and lose governance leverage permanently. SpaceX already in Nasdaq 100 inclusion pipeline within weeks (forcing index fund automatic buying) while excluded from S&P 500 longer. Merger would create single entity combining rockets/Starlink/orbital data centers/AI/Grok/Tesla EVs/robotics potentially largest company in history by TAM. But $90%+ of SpaceX $28.5T TAM is unproven AI orbital compute - Broadcom already showed AI trade can disappoint. If AI spending slows, $2.1T SpaceX valuation at significant risk of compression and Tesla shareholders lose their only check on Musk.
FOMC widely expected to hold rates steady Wednesday but Kevin Warsh's first post-decision press conference is the week's biggest market event. May CPI advanced fastest rate since 2023, May PPI fastest since 2022, payrolls +172K far exceeding estimates for several months running. BNP Paribas chief US economist James Egelhof: "strong growth, gradually tightening labor market and persistently high inflation markedly different to what officials expected when Fed cut rates last fall." Macquarie strategists warned "inflationary impacts of AI build-out will be important part of FOMC discussion" with any evidence AI creating inflation challenging Warsh's view of AI as disinflationary long-term. Trump still insisting on rate cuts while data points opposite direction. One quarter-point hike expected later this year already priced in.
Why It Matters: This is the setup. Warsh's press conference style, tone, and forward guidance signals will reprice bond markets regardless of rate decision itself. If he signals Greenspan-style less telegraphing and fewer press conferences, traders lose signals they currently price off. If he acknowledges inflation is winning over AI productivity thesis, rate hike timeline accelerates. Mag 7 committed $725B AI capex assuming rates plateau - any signal hike coming faster than Q4 2026 reprices entire AI infrastructure investment thesis. Trump watching for any hint of cuts for midterms, Warsh watching inflation data that screams the opposite. First press conference sets the tone for Warsh era and traders will parse every word.
